Comments:

Robert W. Service (1874–1958) was an English-born British-Canadian poet and writer universally known as the "Bard of the Yukon" for his vivid narrative verses capturing the rugged life, adventure, and eccentric characters of the Klondike Gold Rush.

Service was a prolific wanderer who traveled the world extensively, living in Paris, Hollywood, and the French Riviera. Over his 50-year career, he wrote six novels, multiple collections of poetry, and two autobiographies.

One of Robert W. Service lifetime best friends were Frank and Caroline Armington. Robert met them in Paris during his “Latin Quarter” period.

Frank and Caroline were invited to Robert’s wedding with Germaine Bourgoin in June 1913.

Robert wrote that “for years I enjoyed their gentle friendship.”

Charlotte Service-Longépé wrote:

''The summer 1914 spent in Lancieux was probably one of the happiest moment of Robert W. Service’s life. Having bought “Dream Haven” with his wife Germaine one year before, Robert invited his best friends to visit him, among them: his Scottish friend Archibald Ker Bruce, journalist and manager of the Reuter’s Paris office and Frank and Caroline Armington.''

In 1915 Caroline Armington produced two etchings of Lancieux (CA-141 and CA-142) and Frank Armington did a portrait (oil painting) of Germaine Bourgoin.
