Dr. Joseph Wilson Cochran (1867–1961) was a prominent American Presbyterian minister, author, and diplomat, while "Mrs. Joseph Wilson Cochran" most frequently refers to his wife, Dorothea Edwards Lewis Cochran

The couple is most highly regarded for their historical and humanitarian work in Paris, France during the early 20th century.

Following World War I, Dr. Cochran took charge of the restoration and physical building of the famous American Church in Paris. His leadership helped unite various social, diplomatic, and artistic expatriate groups in France.

For his monumental work bridging Franco-American relations and rebuilding the community, the French government awarded Dr. Cochran the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Palmes Académiques.

Dr. Cochran authored several books, including Friendly Adventurers: A Chronicle of the American Church of Paris (1931), which documented the life of the American colony in France.

He answered the call of General John J. Pershing during World War I to serve as an Army Chaplain.

After retiring from the ministry in 1933, Dr. and Mrs. Cochran divided their time between Nantucket, Massachusetts and Anna Maria, Florida. In his later years, Dr. Cochran became a well-known watercolor painter, exhibiting his artwork in New York, Florida, and Nantucket before passing away at the age of 94.
