Charles Alden Vose, a banker and civic giant whose lifetime spanned the rise and fall of First National Bank & Trust Co. of Oklahoma City, died early Wednesday December 11, 1986 . He rose to assistant cashier, to vice president, and was named its president in 1947. From that date, the Vose name was synonymous with First National. When elected chairman, he succeeded his father, the late Richard A. Vose, then 82, who was named honorary chairman of First National.
Charles Alden Vose was born in Clinton, Iowa, November 28, 1900, son of Richard A. and Lyda (Conger) Vose. He was 3 years old when his parents moved to Oklahoma City. He graduated from Central High School and attended Dartmouth College in New Hampshire.

Vose was founder in 1962 of First Bancorporation, the state's first bank holding company. Throughout his leadership of First, the Vose family branched out into other banking ventures, founding subsidiaries of First and buying other bank holdings. Vose's influence on the civic and commercial direction of Oklahoma City was enormous. He was instrumental in creating the Oklahoma Industries Authority, which brought dramatic industrial growth to central Oklahoma in the 1960s and early '70s.

Vose was married in 1925 to Margaret Hoffman (1905-1980), daughter of an 1889 pioneer couple, Gen. and Mrs. Roy G. Hoffman.

Mrs. Vose died Oct. 1, 1980.
