About this Edition

About the author

Arthur McKenzie Brockman

Born in 1925 in Port Arthur, Ontario, McKenzie began his career as a teacher of history, English and French in Dawson Creek, B.C.

He then moved to Quebec where he continued his career as educator, McKenzie becoming a school principal in Huntington and Schefferville.

McKenzie left teaching in the 1970s to immerse himself in all things artistic. He founded L'Atelier d'Art de Deux Montagnes where he promoted Quebec and Canadian artists.

He is well known for restoring the work of Frank and Caroline Armington, Canadian artists living in Paris, to their rightful name in Canadian art history. McKenzie passed away peacefully in Two Mountains, Quebec in 2010 and is remembered for his love of history, literature and Canadian art.

The Montreal Print Collectors’ Society

La Société des Collectionneurs d’Estampes de Montréal

The Montreal Print Collectors’ Society (MPCS) was Canada’s oldest and most active group dedicated to encouraging the appreciation and study of original prints among art lovers.

The Society grew out of a meeting between Joe King and A. McKenzie Brockman over a Frank Milton Armington print, an event that coincided with a lecture series by print expert/dealer Jan Johnson.

In October of 1984, Joe King gathered a group of like-minded people in his living room to further their print education. The MPCS was born.

Then, for many years, MPCS held its monthly lecture-meetings either at church halls, city halls or at galleries, museums or artists' studios.

It also organized exhibitions, print sales events and published a few artist brochures.

In 1985, the MPCS published Caroline (1875-1939) and Frank (1876-1941) Armington written by Arthur McKenzie Brockman.

After 35 years of meetings, exhibitions, exchanges and gatherings, the MPCS ceased its lectures and operations in May 2019.
